ABOUT US

Outrageous Musical Satire

“Fun, flirtatious and delightfully silly”, The Independent, Topping and Butch are the outrageous comedy-duo known for their satirical parodies, naughty numbers and spot-on stand up with the audience.

The double act have had a string of yearly sell out shows at The Pleasance and Underbelly venues at The Edinburgh Fringe and have been regulars on Radio 4′s “Loose Ends” as well as appearances on Paramount  Comedy Channel’s “The World Stands Up”. Their own West End shows have included “Take It Up the Octave” and “Desperate Fishwives” at The Soho Theatre and “How to Survive Valentine’s Day” and “Sex, Drugs and Harriet Harman” at The Leicester Square Theatre. Every week they perform at cabaret, private and stand-up comedy venues across the UK.

Internationally, Topping & Butch have taken their show to The Sydney Cracker Comedy Festival, Adelaide Feast Festival, The Melbourne International Comedy Festival, The Prague Fringe Festival as well as the Leicester, Dublin, Glasgow, Cambridge and Swindon Comedy Festivals. They have also appeared at comedy stand up venues in Singapore and San Francisco as well as engagements on several cruise ships.

Joe & Michael make a point of including very local references, up-to-the-minute politics, camp gossip and current events wherever they appear. The act usually works with live keyboards and backing tracks with a full sound system available but Topping & Butch also perform simply with backing tracks where space is at a premium and have developed their own ‘piano bar’ spectacular for venues that have an acoustic piano and prefer a more relaxed and intimate performance.

“Clever, sharp and very funny”, The Times

“A double act in the true sense of the word… they write the funniest songs in the business”, The Scotsman ?????

“Fantastic show at Headliners Comedy Club in Chiswick, laughed all the way home!” Geoff Simmonds, Facebook, 10 Jan 2014

“Dear T+B, I’ve been attending the Highlight comedy club in Leeds for quite a few years now and never had cause (good or bad) to write to them or indeed any of the acts. However, without doubt you two guys were the best act my friends and I have ever seen there. Even with the idiotic hecking girl next to the stage (who you put down perfectly) your act was in a different class to ANYTHING we’ve ever seen.” Allister and Mimi, email, 16 Oct 2013

And you can’t be outrageous without the odd complaint..
“I saw your show at the Quebec on Sunday. Even after 24 hours I remain unhappy about one aspect. Comedy often does shock but bad taste still exists. To refer to your arse as the Gaza Strip is surely indecent and inappropriate.” George Dobinson, email, 3 December 2013
